As raw as it gets!

Our passion for beekeeping began over 140 years ago when my great great great grandfather Benjamin (Benji) ordered 100 beehives on the back of a horse drawn wagon. In those days, at $4 per hive, it would have been a small fortune. Unfortunately upon arrival, most had been smothered by the long hot journey. I think I know how he felt. 

Of course, Grandpa Benji had no choice but to bounce back and salvaged what few were left and, after a few years,  he greatly surpassed the number lost.  Benji loved honey. Once when he was younger, some wild honeycomb saved him from near starvation. Later in life he owned thousands of acres of orchards and needed pollinators. Benji ultimately taught his wealthy son Dave the beekeeping trade, who then passed the skill on to his poor son Ben (G.B. Wilson) who once sold all his livestock to save his sick dying wife. She recovered and they raised their family through the depression by bartering honey, and other farm goods. Ben passed on our family tradition that "work  solves all problems." 

Things got better and during the fabulous 50's and swinging 60's, Ben's grandson Boydean (my father) became the only posterity interested in honeybees who helped his grandfather build beehives to pay for schooling. 

Growing up in the 80's, we never wore bee suits. I never knew such a thing existed. Family traditions came with a natural understanding for “bee-havior”. After 5 generations, beekeeping had whittled to little more than a homestead hobby. That is, until my father retired and we decided to turn beekeeping back into a farm business. No doubt grandpa Benji is proud!

Today our little army of 60+ million busy bees perform natural pollinating services for the community for 100 miles around Utah county.
